Wedding Dress

I made this wedding dress for a good friend of mine after she and her fiancée flattered me into sewing it. (I was quite nervous about making a wedding dress!) It took me months to complete, and was a valuable learning experience for me. The front panel is made of tapestry fabric decorated with an Art Nouveau William Morris Rose design. I bought the fabric while on vacation in Ireland, and lugged it home in my suitcase. I quickly learned that tapestry fabric is quite heavy! The body of the dress is Dupioni silk, and the sleeves are organza. I made all of the cording between the seams from the silk dress fabric. Since the dress has no shoulder support to help carry its weight, I heavily boned the bodice with an inter-liner for invisible structure and support. The inter-liner is located between the outer dress fabric and the liner, and has casings to hold the boning for the bodice to prevent visible seams on the outside of the dress. The entire wedding dress is lined with crepe-backed satin. All of the Swarovski lead-crystal pearls and rhinestones on the front panel were applied by hand. This dress was my first attempt at hand beading, and I am very happy with the end results.

Bridal Cloak

I was commissioned to make this cloak for a winter wedding. It features faux fur trim and a detachable hood. It is made of crepe with a satin liner. It reaches the floor in the front, and has a flowing train in the back. The bride planned to wear it down the aisle, so I felt it had to match her beautiful dress in quality. She used the cloak without the hood while wearing her veil, and then attached the hood for pictures outdoors. This cloak was created as a set with the bridal muff also in this gallery.

Bridal Muff

This muff matches the bridal cloak also in this gallery. It is made of faux mink fur in an ivory color, and lined with satin. The bride chose a hand strap instead of a neck string because she felt it would be too difficult to lift something over her head with her veil and tiara.

Bridesmaid Cape

This bridesmaid cape is one of six that I made for a winter wedding. It is made from the same fabric as the bridesmaids’ dresses, which the bride special-ordered from her bridal shop. The outer fabric is bridal satin, and the liner is crepe-backed satin. My client requested the tapered shape for a unique look.

Bridesmaid Muff

This muff is one of six that I made to match the bridesmaids’ capes, which are also in this gallery. It is made from bridal satin and lined with crepe-backed satin. I segmented the muff with cording to add extra flare, and also to help it match the shape of the bride’s muff.

Fantasy Wedding Dress

The client who commissioned this wanted her wedding dress to resemble a fairy tale princess. I fashioned the dress after her own sketches that she provided me with. It is made from heavy weight bridal satin, with a front bodice panel of white and silver brocade. A wide cording separates the two fabrics of the bodice. The upper arms are decorated with brocade “ribbons”, which are trimmed in pearls. The over-sleeves are made from silk chiffon. Fancy pearl trim embellishes the pointed wrists of the under-sleeves. The dress is lined with bridal satin, and the bodice is underlined with two layers of heavy canvas, which is boned with steel boning for support. A pearl trim runs around the neck opening for an extra hint of elegance.

Bridesmaid- Air

This bridesmaid dress was made to accompany the Fantasy Wedding Dress in this Gallery. The bride wanted her bridesmaids to represent the four elements- earth, water, air, and fire. She chose the color schemes and fabrics, and provided me with a sketch of her design ideas. The dress is made of crepe-backed satin, and lined in bridal satin. The overskirt is made from iridescent silk chiffon. Satin ribbons decorate the short puffy sleeves, as well as the empire waistline. The satin ribbon at the waistline ties in a bow at the back. This dress is a light lavender color, with a grey iridescent silk chiffon overskirt. The colors are meant to represent a smoky breeze, and thus tie this dress to the elemental theme of Air.
